Android Tester Help

Stuck installing? Let's fix it.

Testing on Android works a little differently from a normal app install, so a few snags are common — and every one has a quick fix. Find yours below.

Common Snags

The usual suspects, solved.

I can't find the app in the Play Store

"I searched and nothing comes up."

That's expected. Test apps aren't searchable. You have to open the opt-in link we emailed you, tap Become a tester, and only then will the Play Store page load. Bookmark that link — it's your way in until we launch publicly.

It says I'm "not a tester"

"The link says I'm not on the test."

This almost always means you're signed into Google with a different account than the one we added. Check the account at the top of the Play Store (tap your profile picture) and switch to the email you gave us. If it still won't take, reply to the invite and we'll confirm the address.

The app page won't load yet

"I opted in but the Install button isn't there."

After you opt in it can take a few minutes to a couple of hours for Google to activate access. Close the Play Store, wait a bit, then reopen the install link. A quick way to nudge it: clear the Play Store cache in Android Settings → Apps → Google Play Store.

I'm testing more than one app

"I joined one app but not the others."

Every app is a separate test with its own invite link. Joining one doesn't add you to the rest — you need to open and accept each app's link on its own. If an invite for one of your apps hasn't arrived, it's just on a different timeline; the others are still coming.

The app won't update

"I think I'm on an old version."

Test builds update through the Play Store like any app. Open the Play Store, go to Manage apps & device, and pull to refresh — pending test updates show there. Make sure you're still opted in (the opt-in link will say so).

I changed phones

"New device, app's gone."

As long as you sign into the new phone with the same Google account, just open the install link again to reinstall. Your account and data live in your login, not the device — sign in and everything's there.

I want to leave the test

"How do I opt out?"

Open the same opt-in link and choose Leave the program, then uninstall the app. No charge, nothing to cancel. We'd love for you to stay the full two weeks — but it's always your call.

Still stuck?

"None of these fixed it."
